days : hours : minutes : seconds to go
It's that time of year again: a time when you can't help but think about cosiness, presents, friends and family and... the Leuven Christmas Market. This year marks the 37th edition of this market, which is held in the city centre. Mgr. Ladeuze Square and H. Hoover Square form the backdrop for one of the oldest and cosiest Christmas markets in the country, where you can find those last-minute gifts you need for the end-of-year celebrations. Or you can browse the many stalls from home and abroad offering their homemade craft products, while enjoying a delicious hot drink or tasty snack to take your mind off the cold weather.
600,000 visitors
Last year, more than 600,000 visitors from home and abroad flocked to the capital of Flemish Brabant. We owe this to the ever-growing interest from abroad, such as this Dutch travel blog. The Dutch and French railway operators now also offer cheaper tickets to our Christmas market.
New features
Of course, there are a few new features to discover. You can find Father Christmas in his brand new residence and visit him every day from 1 p.m. onwards.
Chalet Artois
This year, you can enjoy tasty treats at the many stalls, but also at “Chalet Artois”, a unique and beautifully decorated brasserie in the centre of Ladeuzeplein. Nearby, you can visit “Chalet Meerdael” for delicious local products.
Strongholds
Strongholds such as the “Christmas Pyramid” and the “Retro Christmas Carousel” are returning to Leuven again this year.
The Leuven Christmas Market opens its doors on Tuesday 9 December at noon. Until Sunday 21 December, you are more than welcome between 12 noon and 11 p.m. (on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 December, the doors close at 10 p.m.). On Sunday 21 December, the gates close at 8 p.m.! Be sure to check out the floor plan here.
